My Visit to the Burgos Cathedral in Spain March2014
It was a beautiful day when I visited Burgos Cathedral in Burgos, Spain. I was excited to enter this magnificent place and walk in the footsteps of my ancestors.  King Ferdinand III (San Fernando III) of Castile (my 23rd great grandfather) ordered the construction in 1221 and it was completed in 1567. In 1919, the cathedral became the burial place of Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar , "El Cid" (my 26th great grandfather) and his wife Jimena de Gormaz. I visited his burial place in the center of the Cathedral where he and his wife are buried.

The pedigree tree in PDF format was taken from the book El Cid, God's Own Champion  by James Fitshenry by Catholic Vitality Publications. This is by far the best book I have read about "El Cid". So many tales have been told about him and events of his life that sometimes discredit his accomplishments.  This book gives Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar the credit he deserves for the true Christian that he was. There are those in modern times who challenge the facts of El Cid's life, however critics forget the he was so named by his contemporaries, both Christian and Moor.
